ABOUT THE TOUR
Explore the rainforest surrounding Copa de Arbol on a private guided wildlife hike through our one-kilometer wildlife loop, affectionately known as the “Spider Monkey Loop” because of the spider monkeys frequently spotted moving through the trees overhead. Dedicated wildlife cameras positioned around the property regularly capture photos of exotic wildlife traveling through this area. Before your hike, our hotel staff can share some of the most recent wildlife sightings to give you an idea of what may be exploring the forest alongside you.
The trail is well maintained and approachable for a wide range of ages and hiking abilities. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll learn about the wildlife, plants, insects, and incredible biodiversity found within the primary rainforest surrounding Copa de Arbol. Our rainforest is part of the same greater ecosystem as nearby Corcovado National Park, offering guests the opportunity to experience similar flora, fauna, and animals without traveling far from the hotel or navigating the busier trails of the national park.
This tour may be requested during your stay. We recommend providing a few days’ notice whenever possible so our team can arrange availability with your guide.

- Expect approximately two to three hours exploring a beautiful rainforest trail with your guide.
- The trail is generally beginner-friendly, although conditions can vary depending on recent rainfall and weather. Guests should be comfortable walking on natural and occasionally uneven terrain.
- Along the way, your guide will help you identify wildlife, plants, insects, animal sounds, tracks, and other signs of life throughout the forest. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but this area is frequently active and offers excellent opportunities for observing and photographing Costa Rica’s rainforest species in their natural habitat.
- Tours generally depart at approximately 3:00 PM following lunch.
- Please allow approximately 2–3 hours for the complete experience.
- Departure and return are directly from Copa de Arbol, making this an excellent excursion for guests who want to explore the rainforest without additional transportation or a long travel day.
- This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
- Guests must be able to walk independently on natural, uneven rainforest terrain. Trail conditions may vary depending on weather and recent rainfall.

- 30 days prior to the scheduled tour date during Green Season
- 90 days prior to the scheduled tour date during High Season
Is this hike appropriate for children ages four and older?
Yes. Children ages four and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. This is one of our recommended guided experiences for families traveling with children because the trail is relatively short, close to the hotel, and offers plenty to discover along the way.
Can I bring my camera?
Absolutely. This is a wonderful opportunity for rainforest and wildlife photography. We recommend bringing your camera or phone and having it easily accessible in case wildlife appears along the trail.
Will water be provided during the hike?
We encourage guests to bring a reusable water bottle. Our team will be happy to fill your bottle with drinking water before you depart.
Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?
Wildlife can never be guaranteed in a natural rainforest environment, but Copa de Arbol’s wildlife loop is regularly visited by monkeys, birds, insects, reptiles, and other rainforest species. Our team can also share recent sightings captured by our wildlife cameras before your hike.
